Physical Intervention Skills for Schools & Education Settings
A M P Training delivers a practical, legally‑aligned Physical Intervention & Positive Handling course designed specifically for schools, colleges, SEN provisions, alternative education, and youth settings. This face‑to‑face programme gives staff the confidence, legal understanding, and safe physical skills required to manage high‑risk situations with professionalism and care.
What the Course Covers
Morning – Legal & Professional Framework Staff receive a clear, accessible legal briefing covering:
- Section 93, Education and Inspections Act 2006 – statutory powers to use reasonable force in schools
- DfE “Restrictive interventions, including use of reasonable force, in schools” (April 2026) – mandatory recording, reporting and prevention expectations
- Equality Act 2010 – ensuring interventions are non‑discriminatory and consider SEND needs
- Health & Safety at Work Act 1974 (inferred from statutory duty of care requirements in education guidance)
- Risk assessment principles: generic, dynamic, and pupil‑specific planning
This session ensures staff understand necessity, proportionality, and least‑restrictive practice, along with when physical intervention is lawful, appropriate, and safe.
Afternoon – Practical Physical Skills Delivered in person by experienced trainers, the practical module includes:
- Breakaway techniques for escaping grabs, holds, and assaults
- Safer holding skills for preventing harm to a student or young person
- Team‑based interventions appropriate for SEN and high‑risk environments
- De‑escalation and incident‑reduction strategies aligned with DfE expectations
